No inches lost, but then that wasn't my goal. I have been eating paleo since before I came to flux, although I didn't know there was a name for it. Inevitably though, I get into patterns of a few too many treats at times, so this Challenge has motivated me to be more disciplined. As a result, my energy both in and out of the gym is more consistent. My body just feels stronger overall. I've been enjoying experimenting with new recipes to keep things interesting also.
I feel like I can work out more. I also find that I like to look at pastries in the bakery but I don't feel like I have to have one. It's like they're little works of art and I appreciate that but they aren't food. Cool eh?
It's strange, now I just crave meat all the time haha. It was hard at first to stop myself from wanting to put everything I ate into a sandwich but I've gotten over that and now all I want to do is try crazy cooking experiments to turn things paleo. Definitely have had some disasters but also some really good results. Because I like to take pictures of everything I thought I would document some of my experiments on my flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/alishabeler/ Also -2.5 inch yay!
I agree with Jen. Those pastries can be admired from a distance as little pieces of art. I tend to feel a bit disappointed after eating them anyways too. I haven't lost any weight. But I am starting to feel really good. My hardest challenge is cutting down on fruit. I have always treated it as a dessert when I am trying to eat healthier. But too much fruit isn't good either.
Things are going pretty well. I am down 12 lbs (I know it isn't all about the scale, but in my case it needs to go down!) and a few inches off both waist and hips. I have been eating too much dark chocolate I think, but otherwise i find it pretty easy to avoid sugary stuff and haven't touched a grain yet.
My whole family is on the primal/paleo wagon. My three little boys have been enjoying banana pancakes (1 banana, 1 egg, heaping tbsp almond butter fried up in butter) and many of the recipes on www.joyful abode.com. Good grain-like recipes make feeding primal little people so much easier.
No such thing as too much dark chocolate Amy - lol
Overheard in the Canada Life cafeteria:
"Those bright yellow egg yolks are so disgusting, I can't eat them" said the lady getting a replacement breakfast of a low fat banana nut muffin with margarine - Gag!
I made the mistake of replying with "Oh, that means they are grass fed and much healther for you" which was immediately shot down by the cashier and the banana muffin (top) lady both telling me how gross they were. I just walked away with my coffee.
The only thing that I can't seem to cut back on is the glass of wine with supper. Cooking hasn't changed much - I just seem to add a couple more veggies and skip the rice. I agree with Mieka and co. the pastries always look good, but dont give the satisfaction that they used to. Now a slice of dried mango or a dried stick of meat (South African Biltong) is enough to satiate. As for inches - the jeans are loose, and its about 7lbs that i've lost!! YES!!
Way to go Fluxers! I'm with Sam...I like a glass of wine or two on the weekends, and a little munchie mix while playing cards! I am pretty satisfied with those little treats - so far! Keep up the great work team fluxers!
I just finished reading Gary Taubes' "Why We Get Fat" and found it fascinating. It was a pretty quick read and helped me to understand more in depth why a lower carb diet is key in maintaining good health and why the calories in/calories out model doesn't make sense. He also argues that exercise will not, over the long run, help you lose weight on its own. Anyway, just thought I would share for those who might be interested :)
Here is something from Rebecca on the slow food movement.

ReplyDeleteYah, I am always a bit disappointed when I do have a pastry or something. I always think it is going to be better than it is.
