Please, please, please read this intro to the paleo/high fat/high protein/low carb way of life written by Robb Wolf. It is Robb Wolf's contention, along with many doctors and scientists, that the modern western diet of high intakes of starch and sugar is making us sick.
Pretty cool. If you read below the post there is some interesting debate in the comments as far as vegetarian vs paleo. Good read.
ReplyDeleteThanks Darci. That was an awesome read. I really enjoyed reading the debate between Rob and Fit 201 in the comments.
ReplyDeleteI was never a real big meat eater...and now that i am really trying to cut back on the carbs Steve isn't too happy. For supper we had stew and i ate all the carrots, beans and meat and left the potatoes..he came in later and asked why is there so many potatoes in this stew--where's the beef???? oops!!!
Fit 201 makes no sense in his discussion of evolution. One of the biggest differences between humans and primates is that primates have huge bellies and smaller brains whereas humans have smaller bellies and larger brains. The reason for this being that primates need the large digestive system to break down the leafy greens. Humans, on the other hand, because they started to eat meat, grew larger brains.OUr brain size is directly related to the consumption of meat and fat. Our brains require a tremendous amount of fat. As we sucked on them marrow of animals and ate their organs, including their brains, which are filled with fat, our brains grew larger while our stomachs shrank. We no longer needed the larger digestive system that herbivores require. This is basic human evolution.
ReplyDeleteand one more thing,
ReplyDeleteour ancestors have been cooking meat for well over one million years.
i posted a comment on that page. i may not have said it quite right, so Darci, if you have a comment to expand it there, that would be cool.
