More nutrition

Here is a New York Times article that was posted on CrossFit Oakland's website: www.crossfitoakland.com on the paleo trend that a fringe group of New Yorkers are following. CrossFit is also given a shout out!

The other article, which I came across on the CrossFit Football website: www.CrossFitFootball.com takes a critical look at gluten.

Charity and I have been steadily moving towards a complete paleo diet but I still am consuming dairy and oats. The carbs we do eat are from vegetables (including sweet potato, yam, squash, plus spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers, etc) and fruit.

If I do not soon find access to dairy that that comes from a grass fed cow I am probably going to eliminate that as well. "Organic" dairy, just to remind everyone, does not necessarily mean that the cow is treated humanely. It just means that the cow was fed organic grains.

  1. Those NYers are an odd bunch! When are we sprinting bare foot- bare chest across Victoria bridge? Can't wait!

  2. I thought the NYT article was interesting but also weird. It made eating paleo sound so very fringe and I didn't think it really went too much into any details of the benefits of eating paleo (other then the opinions/thoughts of the group doing it). I would have liked a little more background mentioned as to the science behind the nutrition, clinical studies etc (supporting or not). If I didn't know much about paleo I would read that article and think kind of that only sort of crazy people would try that type of diet, not normal everyday type people. Anyone agree/disagree?

  3. I agree Jane.

The writer missed one of the most radical elements of the paleo movement - that folks are going out on their own and taking charge of the food they eat. Once you gain a bit of knowledge of the food industry it is hard to turn back and these New Yorkers are taking control of their diet.
