PULL

  1. I agree with Charity! You guys look awesome, so nice and vertical, even though it is a still shot there is so much explosive and vertical motion visible. Wow!!

  2. The power clean, whether from the floor or the hang position, is a technical movement that deserves some close attention. Once you begin to move the bar it's important to remember to keep your arms straight, fully extend the body (legs, hips), and shrug before pulling the bar to drop underneath it. The movement is not finished until you stand up tall at the end.

Two common critiques with this movement are: (1) not waiting for full extension; and (2) 'rainbowing' the bar (this is when the bar is moved in a rainbow pattern away from the body).

Okay so these women are doing some great things here with their cleans. Traci and Catie are performing the hang power clean whereas Danette and Brittany are performing the power clean from the floor. All four women are still beginners at this movement and are progressing well.

Photo#1 Traci (65lbs) has fully extended her legs and is just about to leave the floor to get under the bar for the pull. This means that her elbows have started to bend just a little too early.

Photo #2 Catie (55lbs) is fully extended. Her elbows are slightly bent as she is right at the beginning of the pull.

Photo #3 Danette (55lbs) is fully extended (ankles, knees, hips, elbows), and she's just about to bring the bar up into her clean. Check out the shrug!

Photo #4 Brittany (75lbs) is a great lifter - she's fully extended and her elbows are already in the motion of bringing the bar to a full clean.

It's lovely to watch how graceful these movements are when we're patient enough to fully extend before the big pull.
